The teacher author chose great vocabulary words, and includes the page number that each can be found on. ♥ Very engaging and a great way to ensure that students really understand unfamiliar vocabulary. No more boring definitions copied from a dictionary-these make students think!! ♥ I love this! Not only do students have to define the word, they need to figure out the context of the word using clues from the book. Vocabulary is not ever really fun for students, but when you can get it for a story that they love, it makes it so much easier! Or you could choose a different set of chapters: → 15-Word Vocabulary List from pages 58-102 The assessment questions are matching and require the learner to read a line from the text, understand the contextual meaning of the words, and fill in the blank with accurate vocabulary word. After learners locate the word on the page, they will figure out its meaning in-context from the sentence and write their own definition without using a dictionary. Learners engage in the language of the text and understand what the vocabulary and context of what they're reading (includes page numbers for learners to easily find the words in context of the text).ĭepending on how much time you've devoted to the complete novel study, you decide how many sections of vocabulary learning you want to assign. Acquiring new vocabulary is important, but out of context, it can be ineffective and boring.
